Hungry Planet: What the World Eats

China: The Dong family of Beijing
Food expenditure for one week: 1,233.76 Yuan or $155.06
Favorite foods: fried shredded pork with sweet and sour sauce

I found this blog very interesting; an American eating for 30 days on $30, or an average of $1 per day: http://lessisenough.wordpress.com/

And on this blog is a link to the Time Magazine website featuring photographs from the book Hungry Planet: What the World Eats.

Part 1
Part 2

Here are some things to notice and compare to the amount of money that each family spends per week on food...

· Number of people in each family
· Amounts of fresh, whole foods vs. packaged foods
· Number of bottled beverages

This makes me reflect again on the post I wrote Feb. 28, 2009 on the Americans complaining about receiving free school lunches after they couldn't pay. Bread, cheese, fruit and milk is a balanced lunch, please be grateful that the state can feed your child when you cannot!
