Shoes & SMOs

Before I left for China, a commentor, Gail, offered me some shoes that would fit over the SMOs that Jie Jie wears. She needs sizes 9 & 10. I would love to take you up on your offer. We didn't have success shopping for shoes in China and I'm having trouble finding anything except one pair of pink C0nverse that are a little too tight in the toe. My email link is in my profile. If anyone else has suggestions of brands of shoes, please comment or email me. This weekend, I'm going to sew a pair of leather slippers to fit over them for when we're at home, but we're pretty desperate for shoes to wear over them when we're out. Thank you!

Hello, I thought this might be of interest to you. TThe shoes are apparently designed to fit over AFOs - not sure if this is related to SMOs?

The boys "skater" shoes are a little wider then a typical shoe. I don't know if they would work or not but a thought. They won't be in a girly color but I have found all white ones for my son,

Hi Kim!

My son wears the braces too. His are custom made at Shriner's Hospital. Shriner's gives you a new pair of shoes with each brace because of this very problem. My son is 6 1/2 years old but only has a size 10 shoe too. I am pretty sure I have his size 9's available if you want them. At Shriner's they buy tennis shoes in bulk from Europe. The brand on the back of the shoe is "K P". They take out the inside of the shoe and shove the braces in. It does take a few minutes to get the shoes on correctly. My son ends up with a great deal of support. His balance is great too. I'll look and see if I kept the size 9's.

It looks like the give you a size up to accommodate the braces. My son wears a size 10 but his "Keeping Pace" tennis shoes are size 11. That means I probably have a really good condition pair of size 10's I could send you. I just have to see where I put them. I don't think I already donated them since Shriners takes out the insole and no one I know wants tennis shoes without that. :)

The ones I have are black. Kind of gender neutral.
The website is keepingpace.com if you're interested. :)

I have had success with Skechers.
The ones that have velcro that open wide.
It is a pain to find shoes that fit...Josie likes the way the hatchback shoes though and asks to wear instead...even though they are sooo big and clunky to me!
Oh and don't foget expensive of course! :(
