When Apple first came home, of course I fed her to fascilitate bonding. Then, it became apparent that she needed to work on using her thumbs, which were surgically separated from her middle fingers last March in China, so I taught her to feed herself.
At first, she had no idea what I was trying to get her to do and she cried. All she knew was the food was in front of her and she expected me to feed it to her. It only took three lessons for her to realize what I expected and she was well on her way.
